Use the official visitorlevy.scot portal for registration, submission and payment. Our filing assistant prepares supporting figures and records what you report having filed; it does not submit a return or transfer money.
From bookings to a return
- Import the bookings for your property, council and reporting period. Check source currency, stay dates and the accommodation charge before commission.
- Compare any supplied platform collection amounts with the expected gross levy. Resolve unexplained differences and retain evidence of the amounts collected.
- Review the return's readiness checks, available accommodation declaration, scheme changes and any bookings needing attention.
- Check period totals and provider retention. A platform's collected total and the council's net amount due represent different figures.
- Prepare the evidence exports and use the filing assistant alongside the official portal. Confirm its current fields and guidance, then record the submission reference and payment evidence after you complete those actions there.
Stays across quarters
A stay crossing a reporting boundary can contribute nights to more than one return. The platform reconciliation summary keeps such stays separate from complete-stay collection comparisons. Review the stay's breakdown and original tax report; do not assign an entire tax payout to a quarter just because the payout occurred then.
Consultation proposals do not create a current liability. A future council needs verified live rules and its own checked return configuration before using this workflow for a statutory filing.
